Our history

Our History

We are the Wake Forest area chapter of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation and a 501c3 non profit organization. There are approximately twenty NCWF community chapters scattered throughout our state.  We were formed in 2015, when Debbie Ludas recruited a group of 13  wildlife enthusiasts who wanted to make a difference in their community by bringing knowledge of conservation to the greater Wake Forest area.  Five of those members are still active in the chapter today.  The name, Neuse River Hawks, was adopted because of the rivers that surround our area: Neuse River to the South of us, Falls Lake to the West, Little River to the East, and Tar River to the North.  The chapter updated the logo in 2023 to more accurately depict a river hawk/osprey and added “Conservationists” to better reflect our mission.
